HIGHFLOW Emergency Release Coupling

The HF-ERC is a high flow, full bore, zero spill, zero leak: Emergency Release Coupling (ERC). The 90° geometry allows for efficient integration and replacement of existing pipe work. The ERC can be integrated into horizontal manifolds, reel connections and goosenecks.

  • Full bore: No valve trim obstructing the bore allows for low dp and limitless flow capability with low and high-density medias
  • Zero Spill: Inner piston and Probe interface transition with the lowest cavity of any coupling
  • Zero Leak: Seal technology behaviour remains the same during normal service and activation
  • Quick to reset: The ERC is a true QCDC and can be reset without decoupling from the hose and fixed connection

Connected

In the connected state the full bore allows fluid to flow without obstruction across a 90 or 45° Elbow. The pressure balanced design removes any separation forces from hydrostatic pressure: acting on the retention system.

Isolated

During transition the inner piston isolates the receptacle bore (Fixed half). Simultaneously, the Sleeve isolates the Probe (Hose End). Both closures are pressure balanced and generate no thrust during activation.

Released

Once released both halves remain zero leak. The Sleeve protects any sealing surfaces and prevents damage during ejections. The Sleeve closure is resilient against vacuum and wave actions.

Resetting

Resetting can be done without tooling simply by winching the Probe back into the Receptacle. The retention system will automatically secure the probe and open the valve closures.

Performance

Normal service

The Full bore provides limitless flow capability with no valves trim obstructing the bore. Flow capacity assessments and subsequent pressure drop, can be derived from basic calculations validated by Computational Fluid dynamics (CFD). The seal technology is protected within the cavities away from flowing media, preventing damage and washout.

Activation

The ERC requires no hydraulics once disarmed the ERC will activate when an external load is applied. Hydraulic interlocks and overrides can be supplied.

External operational loads

The Probe and Receptacle provide long engagement between the two halves providing a robust connection with uniform strength around the annulus interface.

Pressure balanced seal technology

The pressure balanced design removes axial separation loads produced by internal pressure. This removes “thrust” during an activation if full or residual pressure and flow is present.

Spurious activations

The retention system that controls the ERC removes any single point failure modes. Combined with balanced seal technology, this offers the most robust risk-free ERC in the industry.

Position indication

The status of the coupling and valve closure is always clear to operators.

Containment

The Seal technology combines both Body and Seat seal systems. Encased within the cavity between the Probe and Receptacle away from passing flow and debris.

Recovery

The Probe assembly is equipped with integrated lifting points for tethering and lifting. Floats can be fitted to prevent auto-submergence.

Status check

The Inner piston and Sleeve indicate the position and status of the ERC in the connected and disconnected state.
